The School was inaugurated on 02.09.1958 as Senior School to fulfill this educational requirements of the Kinniya region. Hon. Member of Parliament Late A.RAM. Aboobucker laid the foundation to establish this school. Due to his continuous and lonely efforts a private land in the extent of 6 Acres was acquired and the foundation was laid during the year 1952 Numerous objections and oppositions delayed the project and after 6 years the school was officially inaugurated by Late Hon. M.E.H. Mohamed All. Member of Parliament.Mr. K. Paramananthan from Arayampathy. Batticaloa was appointment as the 1st principal of this school, Mathbom T.A.M. Ishak from Kinniya (former Circuit Education Officer) Marhoom M.S.M. Salih (Anna) Mr. M.HM Careem (former Education Officer) and Miss RAD. Dhayanathy (Sinhala Teacher) were the teachers in the first batch of this school.
In 1959, 14 students sat for the SSC Ordinary Level, and only one student gat through the exam. The A/L [Arts) was commenced with only 4 students. 2 students sat for A/L exam and one was selected to the University. Advanced level Mathematic, classes were started in 1972 Commerce classes were started in 1973. To see the growth of the school at a glance, it was started as a 'Senior School in 1958, in 1961 it was named Maha Vidyalayam later became the Madhya Maha Vidyalayam with 1AB stature. Meanwhile it was functioning as the Central School, In 1991. Hon Lalith Athulath Mudali, former Minister of Education, came here at the request of Marhoom MEH Maharoof M.P, and promised to upgrade the school as a National School, Re gave us a two storeyed building on 16.05.1995 and the school was officialy announced as a National School. Subsequently, it was brought under the management of Central Government. In 1996. Kinniya Madhya Maho Vidyalayam was made Kinniya Central College.
